Legal Seafood… Classic Seafood in Downtown Atlanta

BF made a valentine’s day reservation at Legal Seafood. A spot that boasts classic seafood dishes at a moderate price. That was my most recent visit. I’ve been there three times and I’ve never found anything particularly spectacular on the menu. I’ve never felt cheated by portion or bad preparation. But I’ve never been blown away. I’m not crazy about this place, but I would never say skip it if you want to try it. So to those who want to taste legendary dishes like the clam chowder, I say knock yourself out! You’ll likely be pleased with it, but I don’t want anyone to make the mistake of thinking this is the best seafood restaurant in Atlanta. Its just… okay…. That’s all. Enjoy.

The Optimist… Seafood Done Right

In an earlier post I mentioned the mini “Taste of Atlanta” created by the social committee at my job. The Optimist was one of several participants. And may I say that it BLEW MY MIND! I tried the she crab soup with shrimp toast (OMG!) and the octopus salad (again OMG!). Okay I had two tasters of the soup. I’m such a kindergarten-er that I’ll probably order it every time i visit! It is THAT good. I’m looking forward to trying the items mentioned in the video below.

What I haven’t mentioned is that I used to work in the building that is NOW the site of the restaurant. I can’t wait to visit and see how different it looks and feels for myself.  Of course more pictures will be taken.

Travel Edition… Voodoo Lounge in Las Vegas

I went to Las Vegas in January to celebrate boyfriend’s birthday. It was a different sort of Vegas for me since it was a family trip. There wasn’t a whole lot of partying. But there was a LOT of gambling (Texas Hold Em), a good amount of drinking (bloody mary’s while gambling), and an overdose on Las Vegas buffets. We were there for quite a while, but one night afforded us dinner alone. And I could NOT take another buffet.  So we took the shuttle to Rio and a hidden elevator to Voodoo Lounge.

All i can say is DEELISH! If you get tired of buffets and wanna blow the cash you won in Texas Hold Em- make your way to Rio. Voodoo is totally worth the trip.

Oysters and Beer at Fontaine’s– a VaHi bar

My first Guinness! LOVE.

Light Fixture at Fontaine's

Fontaine’s Oyster House in the Virginia-Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta is easy to overlook—as it’s nestled between several bars, restaurants and shops right in the square. But what makes Fontaine’s cool to me is its approach. It’s less like a seafood restaurant and more like a bar that serves seafood. That’s largely due to it’s dimly lit, hole in the wall atmosphere with casual friendly service.

I love oysters, so I knew that I would order that. I was very curious about the popular lobster bisque and the chalk board specials. On Wednesday, you’ll find $3 Guinness and half-price crab legs. So I ordered it all. The lobster bisque was buttery and tasty, but not the best I’ve ever had. The crab legs were crab legs. The oysters were oysters. And my first Guinness was the greatest thing ever…

Final verdict: Fontaine’s is cool, but not amazing. I’ll definitely go back because I love how casual and well priced it is, but not because the food is great.
